How to compress photos and images on a Mac

Shrink JPG, PNG and HEIC photos to a percentage of their size, many at once, without uploading them.

Built in: Open a photo in Preview → File → Export → JPEG, and drag the quality slider. One photo at a time.

With Garlic

  1. Select any number of photos and start dragging them.
  2. Hold ⌘ Command and drop on Compress.
  3. Choose a percentage and watch the preview; the smaller copies appear beside the originals.

Hold ⇧ Shift and drop on Half for half the width and height, or on WEBP or AVIF for the smallest modern formats.
